Zakat al-Mal

وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

“Establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. Whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will ˹certainly˺ find ˹its reward˺ with Allah.”

Qur’an 2:110

“Islam is built on five: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, establishing prayer, giving Zakah, performing Hajj to the (Sacred) House, and fasting Ramadān.”Ibn ʿUmar · Bukhārī & Muslim · Sahih Muslim 16

Zakat al-Fitr

فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَكَاةَ الفِطْرِ

“The Messenger of Allah enjoined Zakat al-Fitr as one Sāʿ of dates or one Sāʿ of barley on the slave and the free person, the male and the female, the young and the old from among the Muslims. He ordered that it be given before the people go out to the prayer.”

Who: every member of the household, young and old.
When: collected during Ramadan only.
Delivered: to families in need before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.

When to give

Collection opens in Ramadan

Zakat al-Fitr is collected in Ramadan and delivered before Eid.

Pay once for every member of your household. AMCC gathers it during Ramadan and makes sure it reaches families in need before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, so no one misses the celebration.

    For every member of the household, young and old. AMCC announces the per-person amount each Ramadan.

    Distributed to families in need before Eid al-Fitr, as the Prophet ﷺ instructed.

Where Zakat goes

The eight recipients named in the Qur’an.

“Alms-tax is only for the poor and the needy, for those employed to administer it, for those whose hearts are attracted ˹to the faith˺, for ˹freeing˺ slaves, for those in debt, for Allah’s cause, and for ˹needy˺ travellers. ˹This is˺ an obligation from Allah.” — Qur’an 9:60

Those who collect and distribute it.

Those drawn to, or new to, the faith.
